I don't think any band has ever been more in communication with Anathema than Cradle of filth.

I dislike this band.

Only thing that Anathema have to do with Cradle of Filth is that they changed some members ... and ex-Darren's The Blood Divine ... and COF covered Sleepless (I really dislike this version) ...

Musically nothing ...

CoF used to be a good band. Nowadays they're kinda horror circus.

Maybe I always knew my fragile dreams would be broken for you.

I don't see any connection beetween Cradle of filth and Anathema. Not even one album of Cradle of Filth can't be such good as any album played by Anathema, musical genre is totally different, lyrics, instruments.... all!

ex-Anathema vocalist Darren White used to play drums for Cradle of Fluff during the demo days (1991-1992).

COF is beyond terrible. Check out early Paradise Lost, Pyogenesis - Ignis Creatio, God Forsaken, Threnody - As The Heavens Fall, Gorement, and Mythic instead.

Cradle made a cover for anathema's song Sleepless. This is the communication between Anathema and Cradle or what do you mean? They were good at the beginnings, right now i don't really like them anymore..

Help me to escape from this existence I yearn for an answer... can you help me?

...i meant that i cant find any music similarities between the two bands...
even if darren used to play the drums for cof, and even if they quite succesfully covered sleepless, their music reflects no comparison whatsoever

Members-wise they've shared a few... Dave Pybus, Martin Powell (even though he wasn't a proper member)... and in their early record sleeve notes, Anathema do mention Cradle of Filth... but as you've all said, musically... nothing.

I do quite like their first two records though... "Dusk and her Embrace" especially... I mean I'm not a CoF fan as such, but I like the sort of macabre gothicism they pulled off earlier on in their career. It seems that something happened when they got VERY famous, they felt the need to become a self-parody, and any artistic flair they had in their music was gone. It's all overblown pantomime nowadays, and all in cringeworthy sexual taste. Then again, I suppose they've always been in bad taste... but nowadays the novelty really has worn off, because there's no beauty in the music at all.

Incidently, I don't like their cover of Sleepless at all. They kind of mutilated the song with electronics, and the Cure-esque guitar bit has gone from their version (from what I remember) sad

Everyone will eventually leave you.

Hmmm, well there isn't really a musical similarity between CoF and Anathema. But I love both bands.. and to come in here to find people shamelessly slating them kind of annoys me a bit. The original poster didn't start the topic to be given a rough time. Just my opinion. smile

I am sorry, but because you don't like doesn't necessarily mean that it isn't music. That is so wrong put cause musically they are better then a lot of people see. Yes they go over board as it come to live shows etc, with their shows. Yes they suck in doing covers, they pretty much never made a good cover at all. And they have lesser and better albums like every band. But lyrically and musically they have songs that are alsmost freakishly good...

But I agree that it is nothing like Anathema though. Different styles of music all around. Anathema is a lot more personal as it comes too music. While Cradle of Filth tells a story most of the time.

And then I am back in the lie, Painting myself a sad tale. Don't ask me why. Because I can't tell. I just don't know, What is wrong with me?

I've never liked Cradle of Filth and that's why I found this silly. "Sleepless" is horrible cover, I don't even find it interesting. Maybe becouse "Sleepless" by Anathema is much better,  I  can't understand why they've put so much artificial sound of some kind.
As about communication - there isn't really that much, you know...smile

Well, Danny wrote "Violence" originally to sent it to Cradle, and you can hear it too, it has this frantic drumpace in the middle part

We realize the design is a little messy in Internet Explorer, but it will change only when new version of Anathemaniacs appears. For now you can switch to one of other web browsers like Mozilla Firefox or Opera (by the way, they both are much better solutions than IE).
