what does the song Shroud of Frost mean?

Undying odyssey... a myriad of times

The soul has seen
Through eyes of heaven
The imperium of earth
There's nothing left to perceive

Help me to escape from this existence
I yearn for an answer... can you help me?
I'm drowning in a sea of abused visions and shattered dreams
In somnolent illusion... I'm paralyzed

Infinity distraction
A pious human disorder
Blind to passage of souls
Conclusion from one remembrance

Help me to escape...

Transfixed... I gaze through my window at a world lying under a shroud of
frost. In a forlorn stupor I feel the burning of staring eyes, yet no one
is here. Detached from reality, in the Knowing of dreams, we know the
entity of ensuing agony waits to clasp us in its cold breast, in an empty
room. We awake and it's true...
I dreamt of the sun's demise, awoke to a bleak
morning. In the emptiness I beheld fate for the dead light is a foretelling
of what will be... I saw a soul drift from life, through death, and arrive
at Elysian fields in welcoming song. Yet I stand in a dusk-filled room
despondently watching the passing of the kindred spirit... and there
is no song... just a delusion of silence.

I am druid!

imho, the song is about…
about “undying odyssey” a myriad of times… an endless round of deaths and re-births, births and re-deaths… an endless odyssey…
We come to the Earth again and again, we exist in a bodies, in a physical form… Maybe this is a damnation, a curse… Maybe we are doomed on it… It repeats and repeats…
We cannot become Absolute, we cannot “escape of this existence”, of this “total sleep”©  We cannot become Nothing and get Nowhere… (… And most of people even don’t want to…)
Why?
Maybe because we all are slaves of our own illusions, desires, “abused visions” and “shattered dreams”… We drown in the sea of this chaos…
…But there is the highest purpose – to Escape! And to get Absolute! And never again to come back to the life, to the Earth, to the body… Never again!
This is what the song about,
imho

i hope you understand what i say smile

...my kingdom...

I think it is about being lonely. Not alone but lonely. He's asking the others for help but there is no help and there is no more he can do but looking for escape.

Dont look into it too deeply. The lyrics were written by 3 different people, 2 of them outside of the band. A lot of that album was written in the studio under a lot of pressure to get it done on time, so its not worth analysing that much.

No, no... Maybe you are right - maybe that was the truth but I like to believe... You do understand me, don't you?

I'm sure each part has a meaning, but I'm just saying its not worth analysing that much as a complete thing. It was pieced together, under pressure, to fit the music.

I got the info from Danny ages ago. Either he made a mistake or we did.

If Strangeligh is so nice to tell us if there are any more mistakes and if he's sure it was written by 3 people that will be nice ;-)

Even if it's made quickly and under pressure, that doesn't mean that we cant make our interpretations out of it,that is what I believe.

i never know…
and i could not even understand in toto.
every time i listen it, i found myself in the same seething ocean. there i be moved by inchoateness… so unheroic. my perpetual turmoil prolonged… instill. i try to reveal the clique of angel. i about-faced the powerlessness. i resurfaced… de trop all the willingness.
it is ironic.

i think that each one song of Anathema has different meaning for each one of us.. We shall not ask for the meaning, because in that sense we don't feel the song of our own..

We realize the design is a little messy in Internet Explorer, but it will change only when new version of Anathemaniacs appears. For now you can switch to one of other web browsers like Mozilla Firefox or Opera (by the way, they both are much better solutions than IE).
